چکیده

Quality-adjusted life years (QALY) utility models are multiattribute utility models of survival duration and health quality. This paper formulates six classes of QALY utility models and axiomatizes these models under expected utility (EU) and rank-dependent utility (RDU) assumptions. The QALY models investigated in this paper include the standard linear QALY model, the power and exponential multiplicative models, and the general multiplicative model. Emphasis is placed on a preference assumption, the zero condition, that greatly simplifies the axiomatizations under EU and RDU assumptions. The RDU axiomatizations of QALY models are generally similar to their EU counterparts, but in some cases, they require modification because linearity in probability is no longer assumed, and rank dependence introduces asymmetries between the domains of better-than-death health states and worse-than-death health states. Utility Estimation of Health Status of Cancer Patients by Mapping for Cost-Utility Analysis

Background: It is important to obtain accurate information about the preferences of people for measuring quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), because it is necessary for cost-utility analysis. In this regard, mapping is a method to access this information. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to map Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – General (FACT-G) onto Short Form Six Dimension (SF...

What is a QALY Worth? Admissible Utility Functions for Health, Longevity, and Wealth

Health risks are commonly quantified using either of two alternative measures, willingness to pay (WTP) and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs). The relationship between these measures is of interest for comparing benefit-cost analysis (which uses WTP) with cost-effectiveness analysis (which uses QALYs), identifying a threshold for determining which health interventions are cost-effective, and ...

Teriparatide in the Treatment of Severe Postmenopausal Osteoporosis: A Cost-Utility Analysis in Iran

Background: Teriparatide is a new agent serves as a treatment of choice for severe post-menopausal osteoporotic patients who are at a high risk of fracture or have failed or been intolerant of previous osteoporosis therapy. The objective of this study is estimating the cost-utility of Teriparatide compared with no treatment from health system perspective in Iran. Method: A microsimulation...

A Characterization of Quality-Adjusted Life-Years Under Cumulative Prospect Theory

Quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) are the most common utility measure in medical decision analysis and economic evaluations of health care. This paper presents an axiomatization of QALYs under cumulative prospect theory (CPT), currently the most influential model for decision under uncertainty. Because the set of health states need not be endowed with a natural topology that is connected, we ...
